Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about the recovery process.
Understand the basics, limits, fees, privacy expectations, and role of attorneys before requesting a review.
What are surplus funds?+
Surplus funds are excess proceeds that may remain after a foreclosure, tax sale, or similar property sale after the required debts and costs have been paid. Availability and eligibility must be verified for each matter.
What are unclaimed state-held funds?+
State unclaimed-property programs may hold money or property that a business, financial institution, insurer, or other organization could not return to its owner. Examples can include dormant accounts, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, refunds, or other assets. Each state has its own official search and claim requirements.
Why did I receive a letter or call?+
Public records may suggest that you, a family member, or an estate is connected to a possible claim. Contact from Summit Heritage is not proof that funds are available and does not guarantee recovery.
Do I have to pay upfront?+
No. Summit Heritage uses a contingency-based recovery model. Payment is collected only if recovery is successful, subject to the written agreement and applicable law.
Are results guaranteed?+
No. Funds, claimant eligibility, and required procedures must all be verified. Every claim depends on the available records, applicable rules, documentation, and decisions made by the relevant court or agency.
How long does the process take?+
Timing varies by county, court, agency, documentation needs, claimant status, and whether other parties or approvals are involved. We explain known timing factors when a recovery path is identified.
What documents may be needed?+
Documents may include identification, proof of ownership, case information, proof of heirship, estate records, authorizations, signatures, or other items required by the court or agency handling the funds.
Can heirs or estates claim funds?+
In some matters, an heir or estate may be eligible. Eligibility depends on the former owner's records, family relationship, estate status, and applicable procedures. Legal or probate guidance may be required.
Can Summit Heritage connect me with a lawyer?+
Yes. We have attorneys and law firms we already work with and can connect you with one when a matter requires legal review, estate guidance, court filings, or representation. The attorney must review and accept the matter before representation begins, and any legal services are provided directly under a separate attorney-client relationship.
Is Summit Heritage a law firm or government agency?+
No. Summit Heritage Asset Group is a private company. We are not a law firm, do not provide legal advice, and do not claim government affiliation. Some matters may require independent legal counsel.
